With goals, assists, and leadership already defining her season, Nadja is not just performing, she is evolving into a player who understands both the game and her role in shaping its future.

In this exclusive interview, she opens up about her journey, mindset, ambitions, and the values that drive her every day.

Who is Nadja Djurdjevac, both on and off the pitch?

Both on and off the pitch, I would describe myself as a persistent and determined person who always gives 100% in everything I do. I am very dedicated to football, but I also value balance in life. I enjoy spending my free time with family and friends, because those moments give me energy and keep me grounded. I believe that being a good person off the pitch helps you become a better player on it.

How did your football journey begin, and what were the key moments that shaped your path?

My football journey started when I was 11 years old, when I first joined a football school. In the beginning, I trained with boys, and later with girls, and I think that experience with boys had a huge impact on my development. It made me stronger, faster, and more competitive. Winning titles in Montenegro was very important for my confidence, and those experiences gave me the foundation to take the next step into international football.

You’ve played in multiple countries. How have these experiences shaped you as a midfielder?

Football in Hungary is faster, more aggressive, and tactically demanding compared to the leagues I played in before. Every match is challenging, and that pushed me to improve my decision-making and speed of play. As a midfielder, adapting to this tempo helped me grow in every aspect: physically, technically, and mentally.

You can play multiple midfield roles. When do you feel most effective?

I can play both as an attacking and defensive midfielder, but I feel most effective in a more advanced role. In that position, I can contribute more in the final third: through goals, assists, and creating chances. I especially feel dangerous when I have space for a shot from distance, which is something I always look to use when the opportunity comes.

This season you are delivering goals and assists. How do you balance creativity and efficiency?

As a midfielder, I feel responsible for the rhythm of the team. Whether it’s scoring or assisting, my goal is always to make the best decision in the moment. I don’t focus on statistics as much as I focus on helping the team. When the team plays well, individual performance naturally follows.

What does it mean to represent Montenegro at the highest level?

Wearing the national team jersey is one of the greatest honors for any player. It’s not just about football, it’s about pride, responsibility, and representing your country. Every match brings special emotions, and those moments stay with you forever. It has also helped me grow as a person, teaching me discipline and responsibility.

What separates you from other midfielders in your position?

I believe my vision and understanding of the game are my strongest qualities. I also think my left foot gives me a unique advantage. It’s something that is less common and allows me to be unpredictable. My shooting ability and passing range are tools I try to use as much as possible to make a difference.

How would you describe the Hungarian league compared to others?

The Hungarian league is very demanding. The intensity is high, the tempo is fast, and every team fights until the last minute. There are no easy games, and that’s what makes it such a good environment for development. It forces you to stay focused and consistent in every match.

How important were your titles with Breznica in shaping your mentality?

Winning two championships with Breznica was extremely important for my development. It helped me build a winning mentality that I carry into every game. I learned that every match matters, and that consistency is the key to success.

What has been the key turning point in your career so far?

Moving to the Hungarian league has definitely been a turning point. It challenged me in a new way and helped me grow as a player. My long-term goal is to reach my maximum potential and eventually play for one of the top European clubs.

Modern football requires intelligent decision-making. How do you handle pressure?

Football today is very fast, especially in midfield, where you often have limited time and space. I try to stay fully focused and calm in every situation. Over time, playing under pressure becomes natural, and experience helps you make better decisions.

What is your view on the development of women’s football in the Balkans?

Women’s football in Montenegro and the Balkans is improving every year, which is very encouraging. However, there is still a lot of room for growth, especially in terms of investment and infrastructure. I truly believe that the region has many talented players who, with the right support, can succeed on the European stage.

Do you feel a responsibility to inspire younger generations?

Yes, absolutely. I think every player has a responsibility to be a role model, especially for younger girls who are just starting. I try to set a positive example through my behavior, work ethic, and attitude. It’s something that makes me proud.

What is your opinion on initiatives promoting women’s football globally?

I think initiatives like those organized by the Women Footballers Association in Turkey, including projects such as Kristal Ayaklar, are extremely important. They help increase visibility and recognition of women’s football. I truly hope such projects continue to grow and receive even more attention, because they play a big role in the development of the sport.

How important has your agent and environment been in your career?

The support of my agent has been very important for my career. With his guidance and experience, I am able to focus on my development while knowing that my career is moving in the right direction. My agent, Darko Marić is not only a professional who understands football at the highest level, but also someone who genuinely cares about his players. I am very grateful to have that kind of support, and I believe our cooperation is built on trust, ambition, and a shared vision for success.

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

I would tell her to never give up, to believe in herself, and to see every setback as a lesson. Every challenge brings growth, and patience is just as important as hard work. Trusting the process is the key.

Nadja Djurdjevac is not just a midfielder who delivers numbers. She is a player who understands the game, respects the journey, and embraces responsibility. With her mentality, intelligence, and steady rise, it feels like this is only the beginning of a much bigger story.
